The Chicago Medical Society shares President Obama’s sense of urgency
Members of the Chicago Medical Society (CMS) were among the physician delegates who warmly welcomed President Barack Obama to the 158th annual meeting of the American Medical Association (AMA) in Chicago. A charter component of the AMA, CMS shares in the commitment of President Obama and the AMA for reforming the U.S. health care system this year.

Five New health laws took effect Jan. 1, 2009. The laws will expand the definition of “serious mental illness” to include eating disorders; increase awareness for women’s heart disease; increase the privacy for genetic testing results; expand instruction for students’ chronic health conditions; and require defibrillators at outdoor fitness facilities. |

William N. Werner, MD, MPH, was inaugurated as the Chicago Medical Society’s 161st president during ceremonies on June 7, at the CMS Annual Meeting held at Maggiano’s Banquets, Chicago.
Dr. Werner is Vice President of Clinical Transformation at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. He previously served as Vice President of Medical Management and Chief Medical Officer. He is also an Assistant Dean for the Chicago Medical School of Rosalind Franklin University. Dr. Werner has been a member of Illinois Masonic’s Medical Staff since 1986 and has been in active private practice since 1976 on Chicago’s near North Side. He previously was Associate Director of Medical Education at Henrotin Hospital and Medical Director of HCX, Inc., in Naperville. |
