Call for Resolutions
THE CHICAGO Medical Society wants to hear from you! Do you have major issues, concerns or problems affecting your ability to practice medicine? CMS’ resolutions process allows all members to influence policy and action. Resolutions simply document a problem and propose action CMS should undertake. They shape our legislative agenda, our conversations with lawmakers, our policy goals and objectives.
Now is the time to get started. When the CMS Council meets on Sept. 10, it will debate proposals from the grassroots membership. Prior to then, you’ll be asked to give testimony. The Council vetting process includes study and input from colleagues and viewpoints outside your specialty area or healthcare system, which forges unity on issues. Broad alignment means resolutions are most likely to succeed.
As the leading voice of physicians in Cook County, the Chicago Medical Society advances many resolutions to the Illinois State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. This past year, nearly all the resolutions introduced by the Illinois delegation to the American Medical Association had their origin at CMS. Whether at ISMS or the AMA House of Delegates, the Chicago Medical Society plays a critical role.
When you introduce a resolution to CMS you join a grassroots coalition working to improve healthcare at all levels. Resolutions energize and focus attention on the issues that matter most to you. They provide an antidote to apathy.
If you are new to the resolutionwriting process, CMS offers help with the wording and format. To learn more, please call 312-670-2550.
