Amid Physician Shortage, Most Residents Get Record Job Offers
By Bruce Japsen
As physician burnout exacerbates the U.S. doctor shortage, residents are receiving more job recruiting offers than at any time in the last three decades, according to a new report.
The majority of physicians coming out of residency—about 56%—received 100 or more job solicitation offers during the course of their training, new data from the healthcare staffing company AMN Healthcare’s Physician Solutions business show.
The number of job offers these residents received is the highest number since AMN in 1991 first conducted its annual survey of final-year medical residents. In the 2023 survey, 78% of residents said they received 51 or more job solicitations, AMN Healthcare’s analysis showed.
